To buy a (holiday) house in Spain, you need to arrange several things. Firstly, it is important that you obtain a NIE number. This is similar to a UK fiscal number and can be applied for at the Spanish Embassy or Consulate. It is important to start working on this well before you actually want to buy a property in Spain, as it can take quite a long time before you receive the NIE number. This way, you do get to know Spanish bureaucracy in advance.
